Welcome to the next step in creek boat evolution...
Narrow width not only increases the dynamic speed of the Pyranha 9R, but also offers immense connectivity, effortless rolling, and lightning fast edge to edge transitions, even for smaller and shorter paddlers.
The 9R is just shy of 9' in length, so it's race legal at events all over the globe, whether you're entering to win or just for the thrill, and its ground-breaking design and unparalleled speed are just as much fun to wield during your everyday missions too, opening up new moves and whole new possibilities such as mid-rapid line changes and easy attainments.
Best suited to a driven paddling style with control strokes around the bow to middle of the boat, the 9R has the agility of a much shorter kayak thanks to the tailored rocker profile, and rewards power strokes with explosive velocity thanks to its narrow width and maximum waterline.
Extreme bow rocker and innovative wave deflectors are part of the secret to the 9R's easily sustained speed, directing water under the kayak's fast planing hull and accelerating the boat through holes and other features whilst you remain dry and focused on the next move.
The 9R's edges are soft at the bow to be forgiving, but become more pronounced towards the stern, allowing you to carve smoothly on edge with your weight back and aiding tracking during power strokes, whilst a squared-off stern allows the clean release of surface tension.

Swede Form Hull
For speed.
Continuous Rocker
The latest Pyranha innovative feature, deflects most waves away from the kayak, generating dynamic lift and stopping surface tension, so it doesn't load the kayak with massive weight and slow the kayak down.
Wave Deflector
High bow to lift over obstacles, punch through holes and resurface quickly. Rounded edges for forgiveness help to keep you on line. Flatter bow hull directs water under hull for quick bursts to hull speed.
High, Roundend, Flatter Bow
Starting in the center running to stern for control.
Slight Edge
Clean release off stern with edge.

What really surprised me about the 9R is that I really wasn't intending to use it so regularly on the river as my normal boat.
Reviewer: Chris Brain Coaching
My intention was to try and use it for training and racing, but it hasn't been phased by anything that I've asked of it at all. I can easily get my two piece splits in the back of the boat and my river leader kit and equipment and the boat still feels light enough on the water. You also don't need to be a superhero racer to get something from this boat either, many people will appreciate its features on grade 2 and 3 and for some of the more old school paddlers, the length and narrowness may feel quite familiar.
Pyranha have genuinely designed an absolute gem here. This is inevitably going to be popular with racers, river runners, paddlers with a slalom background, smaller paddlers and of course anyone who wants to charge fast.
I have not been this excited about a kayak since I received my first Burn back in 2006. In my opinion, this is the best kayak that anyone has ever made! It's so fast and easy to paddle; narrow so you can easily reach the water and have a really nice forward stroke, tons of bow rocker and a nice edge!
Love at first paddling!

Straightaway, I was totally overwhelmed by the speed and manoeuvrability of the 9R. I can't imagine anything better for the rivers out there at the moment!
The 9r doesn't compromise

It's fast, boofs well, holds a line, and is also super manoeuvrable! I'm not sure what else I could possibly want from a creek boat.
The 9r is my dream boat

Fast and amazingly fun to paddle I don't want to use anything else and I'm beyond stoked to own the best boat in the market right now! Thanks Pyranha, crushed it!!
The best kayak I have ever paddled!
Reviewer: Ric Moxon
I have been paddling this boat for around 6 weeks now. It performs perfectly in all aspects of whitewater kayaking from tight and technical to big volume and pushy. Its narrowness is the key to many of its pros. It allows for more control on edge making it super fun to get your lean on and believe it or not it makes it a lot more stable in big volume. Being narrow with a slender narrow tapering tail means of less surface area for compression features and boils to grab your edge and if a boil does get you the water has very little leverage to flip you. You have to try it!
This is a revolution people, it is like when Shane McConkey designed the first powder ski! Narrow, slim tapering tail and a lot of front rocker, get on board it is the future.
The 9r perfectly represents the advancements in kayak technology. Designing a kayak has always been a balance of the performance features and their respective drawbacks (eg. more length = more tracking, but less turning. More rocker = better boofs, but less speed.) The guys at Pyranha proved that boat design isn't this cut and dry. By thinking outside the box, they have shaped a modern boat that nicely incorporates many of the features I look for, without sacrificing performance in any one of these categories. "Don't be a whiner, buy a 9r".
Who is this boat for? This is not a boat for the beginner market. This is an intermediate to advance paddler's boat. It is narrow which for the beginner may feel a little unstable and it is quick which will make rapids approach a bit too fast for some people. Someone who is competent and is looking at doing laps on their local class 4 run will love this boat.
If you like the forgiveness of a displacement hull creeker like the Pyranha Shiva but want the speed and directional stability of a planing hull boat like the Pyranha Burn then you will like this boat. Oh and of course all those who want to be competitive at the SCA Garry BoaterX next year better get one!! My feeling is this is a boat that will work well in many river environments so to answer my first question, it is both a Race Boat and River Runner and I think it will be my go to river running boat this winter.
