Bank holiday weekend in the UK gives everyone an extra day off to go boating (or DIY or whatever!) Â This time of year with the river’s drying up, many kayakers hit the surf looking for some power, speed and trashings.

Easter Adventures in Morocco
We rocked up to Marrakech airport and found our Omar, our driver for the trip. He led us out to a ~14 seater minibus (well, it would have been if a load of seats hadn’t been removed). It was complete overkill for only five people, this was going to be travelling in luxury.

The plan for the 2 week trip was to cruise down a few sunny multidays, nothing too hard if our 20 year old German guidebook was anything to go by. We started off with a warm-up run on the Ourika, followed by a 70km 2-day run down the spectacular Dades river.

Team Training at HPP
Well, last weekend saw the second GBR training weekend. Two beautiful summer days, combined with great organisation and coaching, made for a great weekend on the water.
Saturday saw the team meeting up at the rugby club and being split up into workshops. The workshops on offer ranged from learning or perfecting a specific move with Sam Ward to planning a competition run with Ross Montanadon, “Sneaky Pete”, and Dennis Newton. The workshops were fantastic, and every paddler took away something to bear in mind from each workshop. In the evening, Matt Chadder arranged games of dodgeball and basketball, with teams split up into north and south and juniors versus seniors, which proved to be highly entertaining.
Sunday was another day of paddling and taking part in workshops missed on Saturday. Team training finished for the weekend at 3 o’clock with a demonstration on how to improve core strength.
A huge thank you must go to Matt Chadder and the Freestyle Committee for arranging the weekend and also to the coaches who gave up their time to come and help.

Corse We Can!
Filming for Means of Production 2 has been continuing in Corsica! But it hasn’t all been simple fun and games; oh no.
April 4th: Lucy and Luke picked me up from my grandmother’s house in London and we shot off at high speed to catch our ferry. However things took a turn for the inconvenient when Luke’s radiator exploded just before reaching the dartford crossing.
We were towed back to my grandmother’s, had a cup of coffee and decided: if Luke’s car wouldn’t take us, then my Vauxhall Corsa Can. Ha!
It would be a 3000 mile round trip that would leave me without brakes and spending around £500 on repairs and losing a kayak. But it was worth it. (Full boat-losing story at www.maxbilbow.com)
Observing a ferral existence, we barely had time to string up a hammock; setting up camp wherever we could, we managed so circumnavigate the Island in a week.
Some dodgey walk-outs…
And, to be honest, a lack of truely amazing stil photos… but here’s some nice ones:
Many more opportunities to find good shots for the next film!
And why not try some playboating on the middle Golo!
A new trailer for MOP2 will be out this Summer. Keep watching this space:

TVF 3rd Birthday Event
This month we celebrated the third birthday event of the community website in the Thames Valley – home of the world famous hurley weir. Three years ago it was set up by Gareth Harvey – committed to re-creating that sense of community which had been missing. The site provides invaluable resources like weir guides, level updates and a community forum. Take a look at www.tvfreestylers.co.uk
Dave Wortley gathered people together and organised some fun competitions – spin to win, pairs freestyle, king of the wave. One of the competitions was a knock-out event where everyone chose moves that they found easy up to progressively harder – the format meant that people doing flat spins could compete against people doing helixes!! The whole day was all about fun – it was really laid back with nothing formal about the event. The winning move on the pairs freestyle was a sychronised kiss blown to the judge by the Mears sisters!
The sunshine helped out too – it was all round a fun day, with plenty of Molans to be found on the water. Pyranha donated prizes, as did other manufactures and the local shop (White Water the Canoe Centre). Thanks to Pyranha and other supporters as well as Dave for organising and all who turned up
