Cispus River, Washington State

Late into the summer after most rivers in the PNW are out of water, one awesome run is just dropping into its prime. The Cispus is a great run that is inaccessible for a lot of the year due to high water and snow covering the pass to get there. It is located in a vast, sasquatch …

Summertime Pacific Northwest Waterfalls

In the early to middle part of the summer, the pacific northwest is the place to be in the USA. After most of the rest of the country has run out of water, the cascade mountains still have plentiful options due to the glacial and spring fed rivers. In the heart of the cascades is …

4 Days in the Northwest

At the end of the spring semester, I made the move out to Hood River, Oregon with my girlfriend for the summer. We took our time getting out there making stops in Colorado, The Tetons, and Yellowstone to explore some new stuff on the way and do some kayaking. Eventually making it over to Boise, …

Loki vs the Inazone and Prozone on the Tallulah Gorge

The Tallulah River in north Georgia is a playground full of blunt and spin waves, cartwheel holes, rock spins, eddy lines, and splats on the vertical gorge walls. Its a great river for slicey playboats like the Loki, so the weekend Tyler Mayo, AJ Matthews, Matt Redmond and Myself took a quiver of boats including …

Elk Falls, NC – Southern Stout!

Elk Falls (or Big Falls) has been on the radar for me since I was 16 years old and still just getting into kayaking. A friend had found pictures on American Whitewater and suggested we drive up from Atlanta to run it. I said we should probably work on our rolls first. But, 6 years and a lot …

Southeast Summer Happenings

In the southeast in summertime, living at the Nantahala river is the place to be. With a consistent play feature and being located right in the middle of all the good dam released summer runs, the kayaking options are wide open. This summer involved playboating at the nantahala, ocoee, and pigeon, and creeking on the …

Layin’ Bricks on the Cullasaja

The other night, I found myself in a conversation with a few friends about making decisions about running hard whitewater. I have always been one of the more conservative boaters among the people I boat with as far as safety and walking away from rapids I don’t feel right about goes, and thankfully this has …
