It has certainly been a spring to remember in the Northeastern U.S.Â
The combination of plentiful snow late in the season and freakishly intense April thunderstorms brought some local river systems to record high flows. Old-timers in the Adirondacks saay they have NEVER seen this kind of local flooding. There has been major devastation to infrastructre and people’s homes, but also some great paddling.Â
We’ve gotten the goods all over New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire. the highlight for me was finally getting to paddle the Sawyer River in New Hampshire. White Mountains legend and Guide-Book author, Greg Hanlon named his son after this river, and I found it to be quite worthy.Â
Tony G, Danny and Phil have been holding it down in the Western Adirondacks where bigger rivers like the Grass, and Oswegatchie have been running for a month straight. They’ve been firing up some of New York’s biggest rapids at stout flows.Â
The snow is finally all meted from my front yard, the grass is starting to look greener, and the rivers are starting to get a little low. This just means one thing…TIME TO GO TO CANADA!!!
Stay Tuned
